Privacy Policy
Last updated 1 November 2026
SketchCat ("we") makes SketchCat, a drawing tutor for children aged 4–12. This policy explains what we collect, why, who helps us process it, and how parents stay in control. Questions: privacy@example.com.
Accounts are for parents
Only a parent or guardian can create an account. They confirm they are the parent or guardian and agree to this policy, and confirm their email address before their children can use the AI features (chat, talking to SketchCat and the camera).
What we collect
- Parent: name, email address, a scrambled (hashed) password, the date they agreed to this policy and confirmed their email.
- Child profile: a first name or nickname, an age range (4–6, 7–9, 10–12), the settings the parent chooses, and the device time zone (to count drawing days).
- Activity: chat messages with SketchCat, which lessons were started and finished, stickers earned, and lessons reported as "looks wrong".
- Drawings: a photo of a finished drawing is stored only when the child taps "Save to gallery". Parents can clear the gallery at any time.
What we don't keep
- Camera check-ins: the photo is sent to our AI provider to give feedback and is not stored by us. We keep only the words SketchCat said.
- Voice: when a child taps the microphone, the recording is sent to our AI provider to turn it into text and is not stored by us.
- No advertising, no selling of data, no tracking across other sites or apps.
- Security logs: to stop abuse we count requests (for example log-in attempts). These counters use scrambled (hashed) IP addresses and emails and are deleted after about two days.
Who processes data for us
- OpenAI (AI chat, drawing lessons, feedback on photos, speech to text and SketchCat's voice). It does not use our API data to train its models.
- A voice provider, if we use one other than OpenAI, receives only SketchCat's own lines, never anything a child says or their name.
- Hosting and database providers that run the app, and an email provider that sends account emails.
Shared drawing lessons
When a child asks for a new drawing, SketchCat makes a lesson for a general subject (for example "dog"), with names and personal details removed. Lessons are shared so the next child gets them instantly. A lesson never contains the child's name, messages or drawings.
How long we keep data, and deleting it
We keep data while the account exists. In the parent area a parent can clear the gallery, delete a child's profile with all of its data, or delete the whole account. To ask for a copy of your data, write to privacy@example.com.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll email parents before it takes effect.
